In an ambitious effort to provide “Housing for all” by 2022, the Indian Government under the leadership and auspices of Hon. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, launched the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme on 1 June, 2015. Under the scheme, millions of urban poor are eligible for residences all over India. Known as PMAY for all practical purposes, over 2,508 cities and towns across 26 states have been identified by the Government of India with a view to setting up housing projects. With an aim to construct over 2 million houses, the Government has categorized eligible candidates into groups, according to family income.
Categories of Eligible Candidates
The Government of India has classified candidates who can avail of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana eligibility based on four income groups as follows:
- Economically Weak Section or EWS – This group has candidates whose annual family income is 0 – 3 lakh INR per annum.
- Lower Income Group or LIG – This group has individuals with an annual family income between 3 – 6 lakh INR.
- Middle Income Group Individuals or MIG Group 1 – These individuals have an annual between 6 – 12 lakh INR.
- Middle Income Group or MIG Group 2 – These are individuals with an annual income over 12 lakh INR to 18 lakh INR.
How You can Apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Offline
Candidates who are eligible may apply for PMAY offline at Common Service Centers (found online at https://www.apnacsconline.in) set up in different cities across India. Every state has centers to obtain and fill application forms, plus submit them later. The application form can be bought for Rs. 25 plus GST applicable. Online Application
If you have met the criteria pertaining to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana eligibility, you have the option to apply online as well. Here are the steps for online application of the scheme:
- Visit the authorized PMAY website at PMAY-HFA(Urban).
- You will see the homepage. Go straight to the drop-down menu. You can click the Citizen Assessment Option. Then click on “Benefits under 3 components”.
- After this, you will be directed to check your Aadhaar/VID number. You will be required to fill in your Aadhaar/VID number in the field provided.
- Once you complete the previous step, you will go to the application page. There will be a form seen and you will have to enter your details in all the fields provided.
- After filling out the form, you will notice a checkbox with “Disclaimer” written. Tick this box by clicking on it. Type the Captcha and click on “Save”. Your form stands submitted and on record. You may take a printout for your records too.
