Founded in 1976 by Stan Shih and Caroline Yeh, Acer initially operated as a distributor of electronic parts and provided consulting services in microprocessor technologies. In 1998, Acer underwent reorganization into five groups: Acer International Service Group, Acer Semiconductor Group, Acer Information Products Group, Acer Peripherals Group, and Acer Sertek Service Group.
