Indian Xiaomi Gadget Manufacturer avoided Customs RS 653 Crore, the Ministry of Finance said on January 5, added that the three shows the causes of notification had been issued to the company.

The investigation was carried out by the Intelligence Directorate of Income (DRI) against Xiaomi India and its contract manufacturers, based on inputs that suggested that the company avoid habits by understanding, the ministry said in a statement.

During the investigation, the search was made by DRI in the Xiaomi India’s place, which led to the recovery of burdensome documents that showed that the company “sent royalties and license fees to Qualcomm USA and for Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co. Ltd, under contractual obligations”, he said.

Furthermore, it appears that “royalty costs and licenses are paid by Xiaomi India to Qualcomm USA and to Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co. Ltd, China (related to Xiaomi India)” is not added in the value of goods transactions imported by Xiaomi India and contract manufacturers “said Ministry.

The statement of the Xiaomi Indian key people and his contract manufacturing was recorded, where one of the Directors Xiaomi India confirmed the payment, he added.

The further probe shows that Xiaomi India is engaged in selling MI brand phones and “This phone is imported by Xiaomi India or gather in India by importing spare parts and mobile components with Indian Xiaomi contract manufacturers”, the statement said, further noted, “cellphone MI brands produced by contract manufacturers are sold exclusively to Xiaomi India, in terms of contract agreements. “

The evidence collected during the investigation shows that “both Xiaomi India and his contract manufacturing not including the number of royalties paid by Xiaomi India in the value of the recommended goods imported by Xiaomi India and contract manufacturers, which violated part 14 of customs actions, 1962 and customs assessment ( Determination of the value of imported goods) Rule 2007 “, said the ministry.

“By not adding royalty costs and licenses into the transaction value, Xiaomi India avoids customs to the customs of the benefit of the imported cellphone, parts and components,” he said.

“After the completion of the investigation by Dri, three shows notifications have been issued for M / S Xiaomi India Technology Private Limited for the request and recovery of assignments of RS 653 Crore for the period of 01.04.2017 to 30.06.2020, under the provisions of the Customs Law, 1962, “he added.

Xiaomi India, reacting to the government’s statement, said it “will support the authorities with all the required documentation.”
