Calculate your FD returns before investing

On 4 years Ago

Fixed Deposits (FDs) are a very popular investment method because they offer high rates of interest, guaranteed returns, and most importantly, give investors an estimate beforehand of the amount that will be received by them upon maturity with an FD calculator. FDs are offered by banks and NBFCs at varying rates of interest, which is set at the time of investment. This interest is generally higher than that received on savings accounts.

The total amount received by the investor depends heavily on the type of payout they choose. Under a cumulative FD, the interest is compounded and reinvested, resulting in higher yields. In a non-cumulative FD, on the other hand, investors can get a periodic pay out monthly, quarterly or annually. Investors can calculate their FD returns using a fixed deposit calculator or the equation—

P (1+r/n) ^ (n * t) = M

Where,

M stands for the amount of maturity

P is the principal invested

R refers to the rate of interest

N is the number of times compounding occurs in a year

T stands for the tenure

This formula computes the amount that will be received by the investor upon maturity. However, investors must bear in mind that if they opt for a periodic payout, the total amount they will receive from the FD will differ from the maturity amount. FDs that run their course till their maturity yield higher returns than those that are encashed periodically or before time.

Conclusion

Fixed deposits offer investors a certain clarity as to the exact amount they will receive upon maturity. This way, they can know exactly what to expect and plan their finances accordingly. There are several players in the finance space that offer fixed deposit at varying interest rates. Using an FD interest calculator, investors can gauge the returns they will get in the future from each bank or company on the principal they have invested.
